Introducing Friends Of the Foundation: Making a Difference Together

Friends Of the Foundation is a group of local community members (businesses, individuals, families, groups, and others) who champion the Community Foundation's mission and ongoing work.

Those who give in this way are called Friends and support the Community Foundation’s annual lineup of programs and events. These include our new Community Conversation series, community learning events, nonprofit training opportunities, and annual Grants and Scholarship Programs, all aimed at contributing to a healthier and thriving community.

In addition, Friends directly supports the Foundation’s mission, allowing our team to promote local generosity, respond to the changing needs and opportunities across our Lewis, Mason, and Thurston County communities, and address those needs through shared action and care.

All who give back in this way are recognized on our Virtual Friends Wall and at all events throughout the year.

We imagine a future where everyone in our region has the opportunity to thrive in communities that are sustainable, equitable, and resilient.

We also acknowledge that in order to meet this vision, our communities must grapple with ongoing challenges such as divisiveness, economic inequality, disparate education outcomes, rising housing costs, and a mental health crisis. Addressing these issues and others requires our collective effort. By working together; we can cultivate a habit of collaborative action where generous residents and healthy nonprofit organizations can effect positive change for the benefit of our local communities.

About Our Community Foundation

Established in 1989, the Community Foundation of South Puget Sound is the foundation for people who are passionate about our region. We exist to grow a lasting culture of generosity and well-being in the South Puget Sound through connection, leadership, and investment.

As a hub of generosity and community engagement, in partnership with community members and local businesses, we put donated charitable dollars to work to improve lives in Lewis, Mason, and Thurston counties. People with diverse backgrounds and lived experiences within our community work through the foundation to make a lasting difference both today and into the future.

Whether you are interested in the arts, education, the environment, healthy families, or something in between, we assist local people in meeting their community wishes through the establishment of scholarship and grant-making funds, as well as agency funds for local nonprofits.

Every year, we carry out our Grants and Scholarship Programs and special initiatives that contribute to our charitable mission and current community priorities. Since our inception, the Community Foundation has awarded $25 million—and counting— to local causes and students.
