About to Drink

I was at the Thurston County Fair photo contest judging when I saw this hummingbird at some flowers. The next day I went back with my camera and caught this photo of the hummingbird.

Slow and Steady

This was a morning when I wanted to take pictures but didn’t know what to shoot. I found many models of an unsuspecting variety: slugs. There’s not too much of a story here, but they sure are pretty cute!

Summer Lunch Times

One summer evening, we had a lovely late lunchtime. I think Summers at the Farmers Market are an essential part of the Olympia community—a place where people meet, eat, support each other, and enjoy the sunny weather.

A Cup of Kindness for Sean

Joyful Hands is a nonprofit that provides a hearty breakfast every Saturday morning to homeless individuals like Sean. Rain or shine, hot or cold, Mama Dee and her group of volunteers provide a great meal with an even greater sense of caring. "I'm grateful for the food ... and especially the coffee," Sean said on a cold Saturday morning.

The Gate

Spectacular flaming sunset and valley floor in late Fall. The eye is drawn to the spot where the clouds, the mowing lines of the field, and the fence converge... the gate.

The Poser

I saw this blue heron fly by my window before landing in the tree to pose with Mt. Rainier in the background.

"At any age, we all have assets to share. Small amounts make a difference. And we really are all in this together.”

- Janet, Community Foundation Fund Holder

“Philanthropy is an important piece of helping to sustain a thriving, healthy community... the dividends are a healthier, vibrant community.”

- Give Local Donor

"I know I can pick up the phone and call the CommunityFoundation and they'll take our call... I've been incredibly impressed with the generosity and sense of togetherness I've encountered in the South Sound. This community is strong because of that and only because of that."

- Brian, Local Nonprofit Leader
