Jay Elder Creativity Challenge

About this Scholarship

Created by his family to honor his life, the Jay Elder Creativity Challenge will provide scholarships to Olympia High School (OHS) seniors who showed creativity or innovation in pursuit of their science or math studies. One of Jay’s proudest achievements was being a public high school teacher at OHS, where he taught for thirty years. Respected by his students and fellow teachers, he was a passionate “science guy”, whose courses included material science and calculus, as well as AP chemistry and physics. Jay believed that sometimes, some of the brightest and best students go unrecognized in high school. Always looking for ways to encourage unique and wonderful minds, Jay sought to nurture a sense of outside-the-box thinking, ingenuity, creativity, and curiosity with all of his students.

Key Criteria

Graduating senior from OHS that demonstrates innovation, ingenuity, or creativity in their science, technology, engineering, or math studies.
